When the woman at the well tells Jesus, “Our people worshiped on this mountain,” she was standing in the shadow of a literal mountain, a mountain with a long history of bad blood between Jews and Samaritans.
There was definitely a wrong answer, and Jesus’ response to her pointed comment about the mountain… turns out to be very important.
